“A monument is a story etched in stone”
What is a monument? Who is it for? What does it ask of us? Stone Memory was a world premiere installation projecting compelling moving images on the Kennedy Center's REACH campus across the Skylight Pavilion’s 145-foot-long, 42-foot-tall exterior wall. The 5-minute film from designers S. Katy Tucker and Blake Manns, passersby on foot, car—and even airplane—explored the meaning of our public monuments as the Kennedy Center marked its 50th anniversary.
Stone Memory was a Washington National Opera commission to accompany the world premiere opera Written in Stone. The installation ran from February 23-March 14, 2022.
